re Single Cylinder Chassis Engine Test Unit.

We find that the upper half of the crankcase of this unit has been made in aluminium although cast iron is called for on LeC.3605.

We do not at the present juncture suggest that the aluminium upper half which is being made should not be used, but we think the fact that the piece was intended to be in cast iron should be borne in mind because there are certain places where trouble may possibly arise as, for example, in connection with the two end covers which may suffer due to the unequal expansion of the upper and lower halves of the crankcase.

There are also one or two other places which may require observation where the cast iron would have been more suitable than the aluminium for the design as arranged.
