[Handwritten and crossed out: X3701 / X8190 X8080 / +8460] It is no use our saying that owners must filter their petrol, or ascertain if the petrol pump is fitted with a filter. Personally I do neither, but fill promiscuously at any pump with the brand I select: sometimes low grade and of doubtful brand, but I have never found any difference except under the heading of 'detonations'. We understand also that America put in 5 gals. at one stroke of the pump. Our cars must be suitable for all parts of the world. We therefore consider it impossible to fit ingoing filters because owing to the speed of filling overflowing would result. At the moment we do not know the rate of filling, but we are sure that it is too fast for a filter of reasonable dimensions. Such filters are not fitted to any other car we know. The following is the specification for future tanks:- We supply an ample sump for water and sediment. We supply 2 outgoing filters so that in the event of neglect and stoppage it will be possible to switch over to the reserve filter which is well protected by the two-compartment weir. That it will be the reserve compartment scheme. Plugs are provided at the bottom of each sump under each filter for water and sediment. There will also be the filter on the carburetter. The gauzes on all these filters should be of the fine standard of 160 mesh. This includes the smaller one on the (1) | ||
