The end clearance of the slider is such as to still allow valve lift if the cap is put on without a washer. No damage can result therefore, in the even of such a mistake happening. The slider should be set to a valve lift of .010 by screwing down to a washer of .010" thickness placed on top of the valve.

The required size of the balance weight should be calculated at Derby, to balance the whole of the rotating masses and half weight of the reciprocating masses.

Would Mr. Hives make a test to see if the pump will rid itself of an excess of oil placed within the cylinder.

Would you kindly proceed in the usual way to secure an early standardisation of this pump.
