| - 2 - Probably springs of 2000 lbs/inch as proposed by Mr. Hives would be stiff enough with 10" levers, but in view of the proposed use of 9" levers, the 2500 lbs/inch spring is considered better. I have the very strong impression that the increased stroke is just as important as the decreased stiffness as the falling at the wheel suggests that the standard tube when joggling actually takes up the available stroke and hits solid metal while the new tube does not. To clear up this matter the best way seems to be to fit 246-RM {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} and 318-FM at once. Will Mr. Poole and Mr. Knapton arrange to fit the new tube (long type) on 246-RM {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Monday? Will Mr. Ainsworth arrange to have 318-FM at Springfield some time next week if possible for fitting the new tube. Note that 318-FM has the old type lubrication from the pivot which should be rectified and instructed for 2401 at the same time. This job will take two days. On 246-RM {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} we should fit the oil pipe on the s. stg. tube. This job will take less than a day. OY. | ||
