We find in making our final tests of complete cars, that there is a 'move' to fit discs on to the wheels of 20 HP. cars. This should be avoided, as the fitting of discs, we know from tests on these cars and our experimental tests of disc wheels, do cause the cars to suffer from noisy axles and general booming etc. If it is considered by Sales Dept. that the fitting of Discs to Wheels is essential, we feel it is a matter which should be brought up at the next Conference, in order to consider what steps can be taken experimentally to produce cars which will be satisfactory when such features are fitted. The case we are referring to just now is that of chassis 42-G-O, which I believe is to be exported to India, but which with disc wheels fitted is not satisfactory, and the car should not be sent with these discs fitted. It will not do our business any good to have the car running about in India in the faulty condition it will be in if such discs are fitted. We do not at present know of any definite alternative that can be adopted to this chassis in order to put it in a fit condition with discs fitted. We also understand Chassis No.43-G-3 is to have discs fitted to the wheels. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} P.S. Two Goshawk chassis on test at the Works, Nos. 168 and 215, are also instructed to have discs fitted to wheels. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
