To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to CJ. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} SECRET. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M24.7.24. WAC.11. FRONT AXLE CONTROL. Handwritten: X8240 (crossed out), X8920 X8240 (crossed out), X.9420 X.9240 Herewith we send N.sch.1827., shewing the boss on the lower part of the front axle to receive the ball end for the radius rods. This is slightly different from Nsch. 1811 which was originally intended for double radius rods. It is not intended to alter the axle in any way except that the cross steering tube has to be raised to clear the radius rod and we believe that this can be done without lengthening the cross steering levers because of the removal of the flange on the drum. It will be necessary to set down the middle of the tube about 1". We should be glad if Derby would set this out again themselves. Particulars of the rear end will follow immediately.
