Distortion issues leading to piston seizures and cylinder liner failures.

-3- It would also appear that distortion referred to would account for the earlier troubles of coupler failures and piston seizures. At that time the troubles were attributed to too tightly fitting pistons. It would now appear however, that the extraction of the bore was due to distortion caused by bedding on the piston, resulting in the generation of excessive heat adjacent to the rubber rings and to the subsequent disintegration of the rubber. An analysis of the results obtained would indicate that the best form of cylinder is obtained by using the improved type liner in conjunction with the stiff-cased type crankcase, care being taken to see that cylinder nuts are exquisitely tightened.
