a lower charging P.D. and a greatly improved performance at high rates of discharge - an increase in volume of electrolyte amounting to 20% more than obtained with .6 m/m ebonite and wood separators ribbed one side. This increase of electrolyte results in a lower temperature, decreases evaporation and frequency of topping up, and promotes a longer life.

Having regard to the desirability of lowering the charging P.D., I consider we are justified in reverting to .4 m/m ebonite in conjunction with the other modifications resulting in improved efficiency with only a remote possibility of failure of the thinner ebonite.

Yours faithfully,

J.S. Preston.
