- 2 - BY.5/G.15.2.38. We have had two or three cases of the upper piston ring breaking. We are inclined to think this is due to flutter, and we are making experiments which I would like Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} to put in hand to overcome this by using the 3 1/2 Bentley piston ring, which is free from this trouble, the difference being that the Phantom lll was fitted with the 25/30 ring, which is not quite as stiff, its radial depth is less. There was a marked degree of wear on the piston ring, which to my mind confirms the fact that the rings were fluttering. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} By | ||
