contd :- -3- proportionally greater than that of the rear brakes for the work they do. Squeaking brakes are certainly a very considerable problem and are in evidence whenever we try and increase the proportion to the front brakes. As the front brake drums are the worst offenders for noise, we are trying flanged thicker section drums to see if that will reduce the trouble. We note that OY. is recommending the Johns-Manville linings and that these are also moulded but with a rubber composition binder. Whilst we are immediately obtaining some of this lining, we are for the time being recommending Ferobestos as we actually completed a 10,000 miles test on this material on one of the earlier Phantoms. The only reason we did not previously recommend it was because its wearing qualities were inferior to Ferodo. Now we believe that it is preferable to re-line the brakes rather more frequently than to suffer from squeaks and scored drums. We attach a report from GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} on his tests on the lubricated servo in France. Ha/Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} | ||
