666. BY/IS c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}17/G.17.11.38. Front Apron and Bumper. Wraith 80. PD.307. PD.307 attached to this shows the front apron and bumper for Wraith 80. The apron itself is similar to that of Wraith III, but not so deep fore and aft. The apron valance is exactly that of Wraith III, FW.734, and the existing brackets may be used to support this, although some slightly stiffer ones have been shown. The apron support has been simplified and by interposing a packing strip when the radiator of PD.276 is used the same bracket can be used for the radiator of PD.233 and PD.276. The bracket for the starting handle bearing and centre lamp support is made from two pressings embracing the roll rod, but this latter can be easily threaded through the gap between the pressings. The bracket should be appreciably stiffer than that of F.CD.844. The bumper front bar is like that of F.CD.1020 and the mounting is by brackets as in F.CD.1013. In order to use these brackets it has been necessary to rivet an extension on to the front of the frame, which in turn has lowered the roll rod 0.100". Extension of the frame sufficiently to meet the brackets would be a better scheme if it does not prove too expensive. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
