x7830 To DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rml/LG5. 3. 28. 15-EX. x8940N 10,000 MILES TEST CAR IN FRANCE. We are sending you a piece of iron work off the sports car. As you know the hinges and locks of the decks have given trouble chiefly I think due to bad material of which this is rather a good sample. Perhaps you could bring home the matter of material to Hoopers. One feature in connection with the decks which seems to be of real importance is that the hinges will have to be considerably stronger than we at first thought due to the fact that the screen is a useful weight and the springs for balancing it are also pulling downwards so that when the car goes over a bump with its well-damped suspension, the static load of the screen springs plus the dynamic load produced by the inertia of the screen is very heavy. G.W.H. has today reported that the plate for rear lamp has cracked. He says that the section for this plate is inadequate where the lamp fits into it. You might also take this up with the makers.
