Referring to AJS3/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} 25.6.25. our replies to the points raised are as follows:-

1. The material on order is in accordance with LeC. 1987. We cancelled the material for LeC.1928 which was originally ordered experimentally. The original scheme was certainly made and run.

2. With reference to the second paragraph, so far as we can see the oil drain hole referred to can only be milled .500". At present it is in the centre of the compartment and the maximum movement that can be made in either direction is the amount specified.

3. In regard to the third paragraph, the paper joint has been added as a part of the production scheme to prevent leakage.

4. With regard to the fourth paragraph, although the bearings carry Hoffmann numbers, they are the type specified, and to the same dimensions. We invariably buy special bearings, whether special or ordinaries, from Hoffmanns, from the point of view of workmanship; they on their part, whilst it does not pay them, definitely stated that they would produce us any special bearing we required, even in small quantities. This constitutes the reason why the bearings in question are not to be found in a Hoffmann Catalogue, since they do not exist as a Hoffmann standard, but have only been produced to meet our requirements.
Obviously, we do not wish to buy a New Departure American bearing where we can buy a better bearing manufactured by our usual suppliers in this Country.
