These shock absorbers fitted with strengthened links are running on the bumper. After running 30 hrs. the lever fitted to the near side shock absorber fractured as indicated in sketch below. The lever was replaced and the test resumed. Future levers are being strengthened at this point. The lever is made in nickel steel. The off-side shock absorber has now run over 48 hrs. with no mechanical failure. Oil leaks from the front end have been catered for by alteration to the casting. There is still a leak from the lever gland in spite of employing a much stronger pressing to hold the packing in position.
