Messrs.Rolls-Royce,Ltd., Date 3.12.30. Page 2 approximately 2" from the baffle. Would it be possible in this experimental tank to reduce that distance to a minimum of say 1 1/2", by moving the baffle, but not altering the position of the housing, as we conclude that it matches up with the petrol fittings on the other side of the tank. We do not fear a lack of surge, and so pumping, at half to full position of the tank, owing to the proximity of the unit to the curved back of the tank, which appears to give very vigorous pumping, but from half full to empty, we should like the unit as close to the baffle as possible, and furthermore the openings necessary in the baffle to give access from one compartment to the other, should preferably be placed at the front end of the tank, or at the bottom forward of the centre, so that in the back corner [handwritten over strikethrough 'quarter'] of the compartment, in which the unit is situated, there should be somewhat violent movements of the petrol, giving us as much vertical rise and fall as possible. We raise these points at this juncture, as possibly it would be more difficult to get alterations made afterwards, when the experiments have been concluded. Assuring you at all times of our best attention, Yours faithfully, H.M.HOBSON,Ltd., [Signature] Joint Managing Director. | ||
