contd :- -2- Six couples were used altogether on the pressure side of the cylinder bore and a sketch shews the position of these couples. It will be seen that the top position is just below the level of the piston rings when the piston is at the top of the stroke and the bottom position is about the centre of the rings when at the bottom of the stroke and is never uncovered by the top of the piston. The first readings were taken over a speed range from 500 to 2500 r.p.m. when operating at full throttle with the mixture and synchronised ignitions adjusted to give the max. B.M.E.P. The jacket water temp. was kept at approximately 80°C and the oil at 60°C. Readings were not taken until conditions became steady. contd :- [Text from top sketch] STEEL PLUG - 187DIA COPPER DISC COUPLE WIRES FIBRE WASHER WIRES 'PEENED' IN CYL. BORE. LINER FR. CYL.
