Decision memo comparing two electrical schemes for reduced charge switching on a left-hand drive chassis.

It was decided after preliminary trial that Scheme 2. referred to herein 16.4.30. should not be proceeded with as suggested for left hand chassis 24-EX.

X.6016. REDUCED CHARGE SWITCHING.

SCHEME 2. IN WHICH THE CHARGE REDUCING RESISTANCE IS INSERTED IN THE ARMATURE POSITIVE LEAD INSTEAD OF THE FIELD POSITIVE LEAD.

Either Scheme 1. or Scheme 2. involves two dynamo armature and field wires called 1 and 2 and an additional wire called R.{Sir Henry Royce} running between the switchbox and distribution box.

In Scheme 1. the battery positive :-
Contacts with 1 in each of the three positions M & B, M B & C and M & C of the switch lever.
Contacts with R in two only of those positions i.e. M B & C and M & C.
Contacts with 2 only in the head lamp position of the lamp switch.

At the distribution box end 1 and 2 are normally connected to their respective fuses and R is connected to the new terminal which constitutes the positive end of the cut-out shunt coil.

The charge reducing resistance is connected as a shunt across the distribution box terminals to which the wires 2 and R are connected.

In Scheme 2. the battery positive :-
Contacts with R in each of the three positions M & B, M B & C and M & C of the switch lever.
Contacts with 2 in two only of those positions i.e. M B & C and M & C.
Contacts with 1 only in the head lamp position of the lamp switch.

At the distribution box end 1 and 2 are again connected to their respective fuses and R is connected to the new terminal. The positive end of the cut-out shunt coil is now, however, re-connected
