300b. To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hdy.{William Hardy} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}13/AP.17/12/36. CLUTCH COUPLING As mentioned at the conference with Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}, we have fitted to 35-EX. the more flexible steel coupling, but have not altered the fabric coupling. The reason for this is that Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} told us he was not worried by malalignment when the flexibility of the steel coupling was equal to one plate of the existing arrangement. The one on 35-EX. fulfills this condition. Owing to the experience on Ph.II. and the fact that we think a less rigid fabric is more likely to become out of balance we recommend keeping to this arrangement.
