LONGITUDINAL STEERING TUBE. X.9450 N.SCHEME 1778. Fitting this with slightly set up springs and ample clearance is urgent. I think we must make production tubes unslotted in the end so that we must have the ball without collar. I propose we make the ends with ½" travel from normal and test both ends so fitted, and one only to find if ½" enough or 1" needed. I believe leather gaiters are the only ones practical and we might make them for ½" movement each way if we corrugated by pressing wet and sewing, or make from washers. They only move the extreme distance very occasionally. Could we not make cover cap removable for adjustment without undoing main cap and so working in the dark. Single spring preferred.
