X4027a. To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from F.Dodd. 4.4.33. 3.PER.II. In the last report of oil consumption on the above car we showed no change in figures from the test taken before the new piston rings to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}945 and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}949 were fitted, i.e. 416 m.p.g. Since then the car has been running about locally and this has given the piston rings chance the lap themselves in. We have just completed another consumption test over 176 miles at an average speed of 42 m.p.h. and under the same conditions as in the previous test, and have used 2.25 pts. giving a consumption of 625.6 m.p.g. The difference we attribute to the rings having chance to bed themselves in. F.Dodd. | ||
