- 2 - E.1/HP.6.12.33. Sliding Joint, and Intermediate Expansion Box of Silencer. ------------------------------------------------------ Failures were experienced in the welded joint on the end of the silencer due to the difference in temperature between the inside pipe and the outer skin of the silencer causing the end to be pushed off. This called for a sliding joint on the inside pipe as shown on attached blueprint LeC.3696, and this modification was carried out on Hancock's car before it left for France, and has now run over 7000 miles. We should be glad to know in connection with these two modifications if you will agree to these being incorporated pro tem on production on the basis of proceeding with limited quantities until the completion of the 10,000 miles test which would automatically cover their full instruction on production.
