To Rolls Royce Ltd. Derby c. to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Levallois re: Chassis GTL.80 - Mrs. Rawitzer We regret to have to inform you that the modified steering column to LOP No. F.61081 which was sent to us as per your EWT/JW29/T.I.10.36 was not correct in as much as there was no pre-load when the cam in relation to the worm shaft was in the central position. The pre-load occured ( in two places) when the cam was moved either side of the central position. We, with the help of Mr. Waller of Chateauroux which Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} kindly agreed to have managed to make a good steering using parts from the original one and the one recently sent by you. It was very unfortunate that the modified steering sent to us was not correct, because the above car has to be completed in a few days time, as same has to leave Paris for Shipment to America. In order to make up for last time, we had to work Saturday afternoon and Sunday which is against the rules of the new French laws. We are returning the dismantled steering to you. [Handwritten] F.{Mr Friese} T. Hardy. Please arrange to examine this with Sft{Mr Swift} when steering returns Sr/VA.Vd Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
