RE. VISIT OF RG.{Mr Rowledge} TO WW. ON 19.2.24.

The whole of the designs of the EAC.3. slow speed servo scheme covering the modified gearbox, the brake gear and the alterations to the engine etc. and incorporating Mr. Royce's telegraphed instructions and criticisms as far as received, were inspected by Mr. Rowledge and he expressed himself as unable to make any suggestions for improving on what he thought would make a very creditable job.

Regarding Mr. Royce's letter R1/M19.2.24., RG.{Mr Rowledge} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} and E were agreed that it was advisable for the sake of uniformity to have only one policy for EAC.3 and for those cars to be converted to 4 wheel brakes.

Mr. Rowledge thought the alternative schemes shewed a certain amount of promise and it is possible that they may later shew well enough to enable the entire position to be reconsidered, but at the moment that they required further development and testing.

In the meantime it was thought that nothing should interfere with the concentration of effort on producing the agreed scheme.

Regarding the question of EAC. hand starting shaft it was agreed that 2 positions only were undesirable and that the alternative suggested by Mr. Royce would be better. e.g. to provide the starting nut with a 6 toothed jaw like the 40/50. Mr. Rowledge thought that it would be found very difficult to handstart the EAC. on the magneto if the battery were down, and suggested a 2 to 1 ratio hand starter in which a pinion mounted on the shaft drove an internal annular gear on the engine, the pinion shaft being thrown out when the engine started, by reason of the gear teeth being helical, or owing to the pinion being mounted on a Bendix thread.
