I wish to confirm my verbal instructions that covers G.73657 and G.75662 should be produced in mild steel in future, in place of aluminium. It is evident from the state of the aluminium shields that they will not stand up to the continuous high speed driving on bad roads, which constitute our French test. We should issue new piece numbers for the new parts and bring them in after using up the aluminium parts which are at present on order, as I do not consider that any measurable percentage of our chassis will run under conditions likely to reproduce what occurred on the French test. At the same time, it is important that we should have an adequate protection, even under the worst conditions. BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
