R.R. 199 (250T) (SD676-10-17) MP180805 [STAMP: RECEIVED FO Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} NOV 17] X4261 BY {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} /M2/H. 17. 11. 21. RE FRONT ROAD SPRINGS. X4261 GOSHAWK II. ------------------- With reference to the front road spring of the above chassis which had been specially prepared by Messrs Woodheads with a view to undergoing the bumper test and which only stood up for 10 1/4 hours on this test, we have now gone thoroughly into this matter and find that the plate which fractured had undoubtedly been very much over-heated. This we consider was the cause of the fracture, and we accordingly took the matter up with the suppliers through the Order Office. We are now in receipt of a communication from the suppliers in which they agree with us that the fractured plate undoubtedly shows signs of over-heating, and they say, [REDACTED], that they are going very seriously into this matter with their works. We believe however, since this communication was [STAMP: RECEIVED] [REDACTED], the Order Office have received a further communication asking for the return of the springs which were specially prepared to undergo the "Bumper" test. The Order Office, however, will deal with this matter. BY {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} /M. | ||
