S.S. CHASSIS INSTRUMENT BOARD.

Referring to C15/C28.1.29. we note your remark that you are going into the question of supplying a patch instrument scheme. Apparently the difficulty you are involved in by the patch scheme is that we will have to pay for instruments which previously the customer bought as an extra.

It is most important that this question should be settled quickly, as otherwise there will be some difficulty in obtaining the instruments with the necessary special finish. In addition, of course, the patch scheme involves the making of certain parts by Derby, for which material will have to be on order very soon. Pending a settlement on this point we are holding up work in order to make sure that we are not spending money on parts which will possibly not be required.

It is of course thoroughly understood that R.{Sir Henry Royce} has definitely stated that he expects the SS.{S. Smith} to incorporate the patch instrument scheme.

We notice that DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} in his memo DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}3/M5.2.29. suggests an alternative to the original proposal of Venetian cream dials with black letters of standard black dials with white letters. This will involve obtaining further samples of dials with this type of finish.
