-5- (7) Noisy Speedometer Drive. The cause is the same as with the rev. counter. (8) Speedometer Trip faulty. We experienced considerable trouble with the trip in the Experimental Dept. when the present speedometer lightened type was brought out. All the difficulties and faults were taken up by Wst. with the Makers, and were supposed to have been overcome. The instruments are being sent back to the Makers for rectification. (9) Misfires due to Ethyl. The fitting of the Bosch plugs in Paris has definite-ly overcome this trouble. Champion plugs have given satisfaction in England. (10) Front engine suspension bearing. End clearance of this bearing with a clutch on the fierce side causes a knock. It is cured by reducing the clearance. The thrust area is hardly sufficient with this bearing. (11) Water leaks from No.2 cylinder plate. This is inlet to the cylinders from the pump. The D.O. has issued cork washers for the joint which are being tried. This is, however, a condition that is costly. The two studs screwed into the lugs of the cylinder break the lugs. A report of this and a sketch has been sent to the D.O., but no reply has been received. With the fracture of these lugs it means a scrapped cylinder block, new piston and rings. There have been two cases recently at Kingsbury. (12) Faulty Blocks. I am given to understand that the Makers are now fitting a new movement. (13) Failures of rear silencer baffles. The failure is caused by too small a welding joint to the outer case. The Depots have no further trouble after making a better welded joint. The snout anchorage has been given more clearance. The silencer anchorage needs lubricating occasionally. | ||
