List of disadvantages concerning a mercury switch, including its junction lag, awkward fixing, and potential for oxidation.

-2- Contd.

The disadvantages are :-

(a) The mercury switch making and breaking contact at minimum speed appears to lag a little in its junction also it prevents us supporting the dynamo from a pivot and swigging it about its centre to tighten the belt. It necessitates a much more awkward kind of fixing.

(b) It is not so compact or quite so water tight in design and not nearly so cleanly designed and executed.

(c) A further trouble might occur after some time in use is that the mercury may oxidise.
