X3806. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/TsnS/AD. 11th November, 1929. Messrs. C.C. Wakefield & Co.Ltd. Wakefield House, 30 & 32 Cheapside, London, E.C.2. Dear Sirs, Re : Swanshot "S" Oil. With regard to the above oil, of which you sent us a sample recently for trial as a chassis lubricant, we find that it is still not quite as fluid as Amber A at low temperatures. It is a considerable improvement in this respect over the previous oil which you sent us for centralized chassis lubrication, but is not yet quite up to the standard we have laid down. We regret that our report on this oil has not reached you before, but the man who had charge of this test has now left us, and we experienced considerable difficulty in tracing the oil. Our Instruction Book recommendation to customers is to use the engine oil during the winter and the gear box oil during summer in the Bijur system. These oils respectively are Engine : either Motorine C or Castrol XL. Gear Box : Amber A only. What we should like best would be for you to produce a gear box oil having the characteristics of Amber A which we could recommend as an alternative for both the gear box and the central lubrication system. Swanshot "S" appears to be almost suitable, but we should not like to recommend our customers to use an oil in their gear boxes which is sold for centralized lubrication. | ||
