2. An additional top water pipe taken from the core plug holes near the valve pockets. This separate pipe was run direct into the top of the radiator.

3. Steam separator was tried in the pipe between the cylinders and radiator. This consisted of a 3" dia. barrel with baffles and vent pipe for the steam.
We tried several types and sizes of steam separators.

4. 'Chimney' type radiator filler cap as used on the Austrian Trials.

5. Modified radiator cap which could be used on present standard radiators.

The method of measuring the loss of steam and water was that the overflow pipes from the radiator were carried to the bottom of a bucket; the water which was collected was measured and the loss of water taken to fill the radiator to the standard level was accounted for by steam.

Tests were taken on the Delage Car, the Marmon car and the Hawk-Northcliffe. The average loss in water on these cars was :-

The Delage 6 pints.
The Marmon 4½ pints.
The H-N. 3½ pints.

The Hawk-Northcliffe appears slightly better than standard.
