Huckerby} 19.5.39. we have the following up against your Department and we should be glad if you could give us some idea of the completion date of these experiments. (1) The deflection under thrust 40 x 90 x 23 bearings already carrying journal load. (2) Whether an internal Acme thread is capable of screwing oil back through a dud oil seal. (3) Endurance running of By's double oil seal scheme. (4) Endurance running of the two varieties of propeller shaft centre bearing. (5) Clutch housing deflection tests with an alum housing. (6) The rig for running four semi-floating half shafts at once. With regard to the latter, we should like to point out again that it is essential to have tested a large number of shafts on this rig before we go into production with this type of axle at the Motor Show this year.
