placed inside the machine at an undesirable place. It would appear, therefore, that the engine has been latterly running mainly on the other magneto, though it is not impossible that this machine could fire the engine when once going.

It appears that carbon dust from the carbon brush has caused a track across the insulating material, which appears to be of bakelite base.

Thus, though the non-faulty one of these magnetos has an exceptionally good performance, the design appears to call for more careful consideration. We cannot imagine this make of magneto would be suitable for our Falcon, and it is extremely unlikely that our Air Ministry would accept such a design.

This appears to be a case of a magneto which is good in principles but bad in detail design, whereas some of our English magnetos have been bad in principles perhaps, but reasonably good in detail design.
