RE FERODO BRAKES.

J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 13-8-14.

In reply to your memo CJ7/IW10814 re Mr Royce's suggestion that we should go ahead full speed on die pressed Ferodo wider Brake Drums etc., our opinion at the Works is that this should not be proceeded with at once. What we have done is undoubtedly an improvement but we are not yet satisfied that the job is sufficiently good to be fitted to standard cars.

It would appear that the Ferodo lined brakes on 58NA{Mr Nadin} are effective, reliable, quieter and smooth in action when used under normal conditions but that under severe use they become absolutely ineffective. After driving a car round the track for two laps the brake pedal comes in contact with the floorboards and you lose the braking effect altogether.

We therefore think that this should be delayed, at any rate, for the present.

It should be explained that the above brakes have Ferodo liners and ribbed brake
