Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd.

DERBY.

YOUR REF: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swd1.6/4.

Dear Sirs,

We have your favour of the 18th instant., from which we are sorry indeed to learn that the special test of Motorine C which was arranged by Mr. Robotham has not been effective as far as we are concerned, through some misunderstanding.

We quite agree that the car having completed the greater proportion of the test on another oil it will not serve any useful purpose now to change over to Motorine C.

Your promise to commence another test in the near future is appreciated, but even so we would stress the unfavourable atmosphere which has been created by the fact that Motorine has for the time being been deleted from your list of recommendations for Rolls-Royce Phantom III cars. Motorines are under a cloud and unfairly penalised in our opinion.

In a Book of Instructions which we have recently seen we find other oils specified in addition to Castrol X.L. although the writer understood from Mr. Robotham that only Castrol X.L. had been extensively tested and found suitable for the Phantom III engine.

(Contd.)
