Copy ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} K1560. E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner}3/HP. Your Ref. AHG/AW. 31st October 1933. Messrs. Self-Adjusting Tappets Ltd., 198, Piccadilly, LONDON.W.1. Dear Sirs, We have to thank you for your letter dated 27th inst. and in reply we shall be sending along in the course of a post or two, under separate cover, to the above address, 12 tappet push rods for our Phantom engine. The valve spring pressure on this engine is 70 to 106 lbs and the cold valve clearance .004 for the inlet and .006 for the exhaust. There is a period during the warming up of the engine when the clearance increases to .008 and .010. It will be noticed that we have changed our minds as regards the quantity required as we feel we should like to try another set on our 20/25 engine. In this case the top of the push rod is not formed with a cup but has a ball engaging with the rocker arm. It may not be possible for you to apply your adjusters to these rods. However, we send you herewith blueprint E.55577 for your comments. We have to thank you for your proposal to supply these adjusters gratis but we would prefer to pay for them as it is more in accordance with our usual procedure. Will you kindly advise your price. Yours faithfully, For and on behalf of ROLLS-ROYCE Limited From A.G.Elliott. CHIEF DESIGNER | ||
