E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Fowler Clark Esq.,
Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd.,
DERBY.

Dear Fowler Clark,

In reply to yours of the 10th inst., I had some words with Mr. Preston about your first paragraph and he thinks that he would like to have a talk with you about this matter when you get a little further so that we can be quite sure that everything is all right. He says that the temperature might affect the voltage from extreme cold weather to extreme hot by as much as half a volt in a 12-volt battery, and I think it would be as well perhaps if he did keep in close touch with what you are doing.

With regard to the special batteries, I submitted your remarks about the dimensions to Mr. Genese and he said that these figures may seem all right on a drawing board but when you come to make the battery with irregular things like cells, sealing compound, timber, bent steel etc. they do not work out so well and the wooden containers are not as thick as 1/2".

Your P.S. about putting up this matter to Mr. Royce about the difficulty of topping up the forward 6 volt units seems a very serious matter, because if there is as much procedure necessary as you indicate, I think the scheme wants modifying.

Yours sincerely,

O.R.N. Minchin
