Contd. -2- EFC4/T7.11.23. vapour The presence of oil in the distributor probably accounts for the dirt on the rotor blade and also the easily removed deposit on the contact points. Starter Motor. Beyond a light deposit of carbon dust on the brush gear, there appears to be nothing to note on this unit. The commutator, although a trifle dirty in places, shews no signs of sparking having taken place, and the brushes appear to be in good working order. Starter Switch. When opened, this switch was found to contain only a few drops of oil. The break has been taking place on the inner contacts some of which are badly burned. The contacts are a little eccentric but they may have been so originally. Wiring. The wiring has been tested in the tubes both for continuity and insulation, apparently being in a quite satisfactory condition. The positive battery wire terminal was slightly corroded. The string binding and braiding in the vicinity of the terminal had suffered. The negative battery wire terminal was also slightly corroded. Large joint box. Mud had found its way into this box, so that the steel spring washers were rusted. The cover securing nut was found to go tight on the thread before gripping the cover. It appears that some provision should be made to prevent the access of mud into this box. Small joint box. The securing set screw of this was found to be rather short on the securing nuts - otherwise O.K. Distribution Box. The wiring diagram in the lid{A. J. Lidsey} was found to be unstuck in places. The fuse clips were found to be in good fuse gripping condition. Some road dust was found underneath the base. Cut-out. The cutout contacts were found to be in fair condition. They had taken on a greyish oxidised appearance, though the operation on test appears to be was perfectly satisfactory. Contd. | ||
