X8310 X7310 X4510 GEARBOX WITH SILENT 3rd SPEED. We send herewith N. scheme 2907. shewing the arrangement of a single and double helical 3rd. speed in a standard Phantom gearbox, with the object of trying whether this arrangement gives us what we are seeking for in the way of silence. We have shewn it on a standard Phantom because EAC.7. is already booked for the Salerni coupling experiment, and we thought difficulties might arise if we attempted to put these two quite distinct experiments on the same box, but it is obvious that it can be used on EAC.7. if desired. As the experiment seems to us to be a simple one, we suggest that it could be got going very quickly. As shewn the teeth of the double helical are of the same pitch. We are providing an alternative wheel having different pitches on the two sides. DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
