VERSION 1.

X.8781m. WATFORD TYPE EC6 (d) MAGNETO
FOR N.R. RAC. MARSHALL.
X.4181d.
SPECIFICATION OF PRODUCTION INSPECTION & TEST.

(1) The contact breaker cover, distributor ring and rear end plate shall be removed and the following details inspected :-

(a) The contact breaker lever for absence of frictional effect and for suitable spring tension.

(b) Satisfactory sliding fit of the movable cam ring. It is important that the ring should not be slack at all laterally, as such slackness has been proved to accentuate the noise described as the "flopping of the sleeves".

(c) The brush on the contact breaker cover for suitable pressure on the head of the contact breaker bolt.

(d) The maximum primary gaps, which should be .011+1 and which therefore should not differ on the two sides by more than .002".

(e) The H.T. brushes for suitable spring pressure and the H.T. slip ring brush holder for any signs of having fouled the insulating flanges. It should also be ascertained that there is no tendency for the carbon brushes to stick in their holders, when pushed right home.

(f) The safety spark gap for satisfactory distance, - this should be 8.2 to 8.5 mm.

(g) The distributor brush and spring mechanism, also the track on the distributor ring. As in the case of the H.T. brushes, there should be no tendency for this brush to stick in its holder.

(h) The armature spindle for any end play in the bearings.

(2) The available range of the advance lever should be ascertained and should not be less than 58°.
