HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}3/KW.7.8.35.

To A.B. Roberts,
Hotel de France,
Chateauroux,
Indre, France.

The following is the programme.

Pattinson and Walsh are going on their holidays. Pepper and Darby are taking their place and are to work on the SpectreCodename for Phantom III. F.W. Smith and Rose are picking up 21-G-IV at Boulogne and proceeding to Chateauroux. When Pattinson and Walsh have had their holiday, they will return and yourself and Hamilton will leave for your holidays.

With regard to the SpectreCodename for Phantom III car, Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} sent out two pistons, a set of steel push rods and the rod with new bearings. It was decided that the steel push rods were not to be used. The pistons taken out are too near the breaking up condition to be safely run. We are therefore rushing through a complete new set, exactly the same design, so that we can complete 20,000 miles. The pistons, new push rods, and two thermostats will be leaving here on Thursday by Air Mail, and should reach you by Saturday. The pistons you have already received can be kept as spares. We want you to build the engine up with the above pistons and push rods, run the engine in lightly before going on the road.

F.{Mr Friese} Smith and Rose should go thoroughly over 21-G-IV upon arrival at Chateauroux, checking up everything. They can afterwards work day shifts and run 21-G-IV until I return.

I do not expect you will have finished the SpectreCodename for Phantom III before I return. I shall be back at Chateauroux on Wednesday next, but will write you later and let you know the position.
