- 2 - Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GML.4/KT.5.5.31.contd These tests prove that the present L.H. cars and the present R.R. cars now being produced, which are fitted with the broad rear brake shoes and the 40% stiffer plain drums, should be free from the troubles complained of. The ribbed brake drums are being tested with a view of reducing the tendency for squeaks and further increasing the efficiency. We have been dealing with a customer's car, Mr. Thistlewaite, 149-GN, for loss of efficiency. The car had the narrow rear brakes and the plain drums. We could have fitted these brakes with the ribbed brake drums and cured this customers complaint, but in view that the ribbed drums would quickly be noticed by other Owners, with a possible consequent rush of complaints, we decided that it would be wise to go to the more costly method of fitting the broader rear brake shoes and keeping the plain drums. This will not give any outside indication of what has been done to increase the efficiency of the brakes. We should like Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s agreement on the latter point.
