To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/RH.{R. Hollingworth} c. Ds. c. E-B/Hdy.{William Hardy} RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/RH.{R. Hollingworth}1/ETM4.1.36. OILING SCHEME & BRAKE GEAR - applicable to Bentley. 20/25 and Phantom III. We have recently experienced seizures due to Bijur Oil Pipe breaking - such failure not only affects the unit for immediate lubrication, but the system as a whole. It was previously noted for example on 20-G-1V where a failure in oil system occurred on Rear Road Spring under the Gaitor the result being the Front Axle Pivot Bearing and Brake Mechanism seized up. On 19-G-1V failure has been encountered on Front Brakes owing to seizure in Toggle Shaft Bearing due to oil failure. On dismantling found the Toggle Shaft Bearing and Actuating Lever seized, also the Actuating Lever and Toggle Shaft rusted and seized together. It may not be necessary to use brake adjustment for a number of months, during which period the latter condition may occur again. Suggest Toggle Shaft be Cadmium Plated and treated with Lanoline on assembly, and the principle of the oiling scheme be reconsidered. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/R.Hollingworth. | ||
