We hope that this information which we have coll-ected will be of use in the design, if necessary, of the plain shunt wound R.R. dynamo for the car to operate in conjunction with a suitable vibrator regulator. X.4D64. X.3936. We are at the moment experimenting with Mr. Northey's aero dynamo with a carbon contact vibrator regula-tor control and we have a further report on this nearly ready for issue. Investigation of the performance of other types of vibrator regulator will follow. We feel that a vibrator regulator could be designed in such a manner that operating with a suitable dynamo the characteristics of battery charge that are required on car service can be obtained. Perhaps information as regards the heating of the various shunt wound dynamos for the same ampere output at the same voltage should be obtained to complete the above. We have for instance tried to arrive at a conclusion as to what extent the field winding should be increased in courseness in order to secure earlier cutting in speed without reducing the ampere ouput. So far as we can see at the moment, the heating of the field winding is the limiting factor. Perhaps Mr. Royce would make a few remarks on this point. EF. | ||
