F.{Mr Friese} DODD. Can we issue a preliminary report yet? Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} X354 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Mtx. E.2/HP.17.9.36. re Phantom III Engine. We should like to know if you have had any beneficial results from the shield on the valve gear of Phantom III which was arranged to prevent oil from falling on the valve springs and thereby reduce top overoiling. I am now proposing in connection with other developments to pack up all the valve gear about 1/2", using valves and valve springs of greater length, and also raising the top of the valve guide and its grummet a corresponding amount.
