to W. from EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} copy to W. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RE WINGS & VALANCES FOR 18.EX. We send herewith N.Sch 2721, which has been sent to the coachbuilders to enable them to produce the wings. We also send to you N.Sch 2735. which is a complete arrangement of the wings, valances, and steps. The rear wing, and its stay will be completed by the coachbuilder. The front wing will only need to have its valance finished off to suit the frame. Derby have to make the steps,so to ensure a good appearance we have asked Barkers to send the aluminium tread and the nickel angle. We suggest that Derby should only detail such pieces as we normally supply ourselves. The other pieces should be made up in the Expl. Dept. We have to send you a detail design of the step-irons for "SS{S. Smith}", but this drawing shews the position of them. Those cars with short front wings would have an extra step-iron at the rear engine foot. The front and second wing-stays can be set out as indicated, but the third, being special, should not be treated. Mr. Royce has said that there must be no tool accommodation on the runningboards. The wings and valances will have to be painted by Derby. In this connection we would point out that it will be necessary for us to allow Barkers to have the actual bonnet for spraying to match the finish of the body panels. The wing lamps are special. We will send you a set in due course. EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
