-3- Contd. The intact elements of one of these cells (case broken away) are still in a condition which would permit of our sending them to yourselves, as no doubt you will desire. Further observations than those contained in the report do not appear to be necessary. You may be interested to know that we have not so far had a failure of any Exide cell which has been subjected to precisely the same treatment (i.e. the same sandwich batteries), as the cells above referred to. There is also reported to me (JC.112 attached) a failure of one cell of a 20 H.P. type battery by shorting, but this has not been opened up for examination. The concise history of this battery is as follows :- " 20 H.P. Battery. This battery started in service 13.6.25, and has been on our bench life test up to its time of failure of one cell recently. I should consider that this battery has done an amount of work equal to 30,000 miles on the road." Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
