To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} XY/520. Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}3/KWS.7.29. X.5520 X.4117 X.4118 X.235 X.7520 Shock Absorber Knocks - Depot Sheet No.Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}105. Ref: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rmd/LG2. 7. 29. We note your remarks with regard to drilling the high pressure valve as suggested in the above Depot Sheet, but we would point out that this modification is being carried out by the works on all shock dampers repairs - 20 HP. and 40/50 HP We believe they are doing this as a result of your instructions, but in view of your remarks we would like to know whether this is to be discontinued. Complaints on 40/50 HP. cars are not frequent and we believe they can be cured by fitting new fulcrum pins. Most of the complaints have been on 20HP. cars and very often the trouble has not been cured by fitting new pins etc. During the quarter ending March 31st, a total of 46 complaints of knocks on 20 HP. cars were attended to, but of this number we have no actual record as to how many were already fitted with the improved pins etc. We know that a few of them were, and in the case of Pilling, GYL-62, Moy GML-36, and Farrer GBM-1, several sets of dampers, each having good fitting & links, were tried, and in each case the trouble only ceased after fitting dampers with drilled H.P. valves. With regard to the wider section pins, these are only just on production and we have had no opportunity of watching them. We will do so however when they get in customers hands. Hm.{Capt. W.
