E.A.C. CARBURETTER.

The following is a summary of our observations on the E.A.C. Carburetter up to the present time.

It has not yet been possible to obtain from this instrument the power which the engine is capable of developing at any speed. This is particularly noticeable at high speeds, where the proportion of fuel supplied is inadequate for the air passing. The restriction has been traced to be between the fuel metering orifice and the diffuser, and is not at the fuel metering orifice itself. The actual restriction is yet to be determined.

Air Valve Springs.

Springs of various stiffness have been tried and it seems probable that the best results will be obtained without a spring, or at least with a very light spring. The accelerating qualities of the carburetter are not noticeably influenced by the spring stiffness owing to the high inertia of the air valve.

Attached are curves giving the air valve lift for various spring stiffness.

Mixture Control.

The diffuser being unbalanced exerts considerable force on the controls due to the engine suction.

The control of the mixture strength, by raising or lowering the diffuser, is not very definite and is sometimes accompanied by slight "hunting". It seems that an improvement in this direction would be possible by varying the contd:
