For the attention of Mr.Martin-Hurst. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 5th inst., and have now received the two thermostats to B.C.A.3357.A. and shall proceed to test them as soon as possible. There are one or two points about these thermostats on which we should like your comments:- (1) The three arms which support the valve head seem very fragile in view of the fact that they have to stand the full compressive load when the thermostat is cold and the full expansion load when the water is boiling - we should like to know whether you have tested them under these conditions at all, and whether you could strengthen them if necessary - the area past them seems more than adequate. (2) We should like to know whether and when you expect to be in Production with B.C.A.3357.A. thermostats, apart from whether we use them or not. (3) The bypass seatings on the valves which you have sent us are far from accurate - they are distorted and do not give a good seating. Is this due to the fact that these are not production jobs or does it represent a production finish.? (4) We have checked the opening and full open temperatures of these thermostats and while one opens at 80° as requested and is full open at 90°C, the other opens at 70°C and is not full open until 95°C.
