NEW 40 HP
RE ORDERING OF
RECEIVED

As soon as we have finished with the "Goshawk II" we are going to press forward with another 40 HP. chassis, the exact pattern of which has not yet been decided. It will probably be of the "Vulture" type with a push-rod engine, but it may be of the chassis scheme we have adopted for "Goshawk II".

With this view in hand we are particularly anxious that you should not order any more material for the 40/50 H.P., that you go on using up what you have already and what is not likely to be used up for spares, and sufficient to carry on the Works for, say, 12 months ahead.

I should like Mr. Wormald to make a programme out to change over to this new chassis, assuming that we complete some satisfactory designs during the next four months. We do not think it will take us longer because of the work already done, and the work we have done concerning "Goshawk I and II", the "Vulture" and the "Buzzard".

When you have had time to weigh this matter up, I should be glad if Mr. Wormald and Mr. Bailey would come and see me so that we can discuss the matter and try and fix up a programme.

There may be much material on order which should be stopped,. My impression is that we should advise the various sources of supply to stop now, providing we have enough to carry on for 6 months ahead. Let these contractors for material or parts make a claim against us if they think it will pay them. There are also many unsatisfactory parts, such as Lucas electrical equipment, which we should positively refuse any further deliveries at once.

Mr. Hives has the right view as to defective parts, and parts that require modification, and Mr. Wormald knows (Contd)
